Clear Creek Interpretive Trail: Kitsap County
Facet partnered with Kitsap County Public Works to design and implement an interpretive program for the Clear Creek Restoration Project. This included twelve educational wayside exhibits and six plant identification plaques that highlight the area’s rich ecological and cultural history. Interpretive themes centered on the importance of salmon, the lifecycle of the stream, and the larger story of floodplain restoration in the Clear Creek watershed.
To encourage public engagement, several exhibits include interactive elements such as spinning panels and tactile features, designed to connect visitors of all ages with the restoration work beyond the written word.
Located in Silverdale, Washington, Clear Creek is a major salmon-bearing stream that flows into Dyes Inlet. Once a fully functioning floodplain, the area had been heavily impacted by decades of urban development. As part of the restoration, the County removed 1,500 feet of road, upgraded two aging culverts, created 500 feet of new stream channel, and restored 30 acres of critical floodplain and riparian habitat. The interpretive program supports long-term stewardship by celebrating the transformation and making the science behind it accessible and meaningful to the community
