Marina Breakwater: Chenega, AK
In 2023, Facet was engaged to conduct a feasibility study and provide grant support for a floating breakwater system in Chenega, AK. The designed to protect the existing marina from wind waves in Chenega, AK. The system is anticipated to be a rigid, rectangular floating breakwater composed of modular concrete units with polystyrene cores, anchored with sunken gravity blocks. Facet successfully assisted in securing grant funding, allowing the project to advance into design and permitting. Since then, Facet has worked closely with the owner to develop a permit-level design, refining the system layout, anchoring approach, and construction details to ensure long-term durability and functionality.
Facet is leading efforts to obtain all permits, coordinating with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with environmental and coastal development requirements. Once implemented, the breakwater will improve marina safety and functionality by mitigating wave energy impacts.
