Shoreline Master Program Updates: Muncipalities Across Washington State

Facet has completed or is working with more than 80 cities and counties in Eastern and Western Washington with major updates of their Shoreline Master Programs (SMP), regulatory documents that address how and when different uses and modifications should be conducted in different areas of shoreline jurisdiction. In developing an SMP that is uniquely tailored to its jurisdiction, these multi-phase projects include the development of a comprehensive Shoreline Characterization and Analysis Report, Restoration Plan, and Cumulative Impacts Analysis.

Throughout these phases, Facet staff have participated in public involvement proceedings, including panel-style presentations and field trips. High quality mapping done by Facet GIS staff has helped the public understand the unique qualities of their community’s shorelines and illustrated project documents while enhancing jurisdiction GIS records. Clients have included Kitsap, Chelan, San Juan, Cowlitz, Pacific, Benton, Walla Walla, and Skagit Counties, and the cities of Bellevue, Kirkland, Lake Forest Park, and Covington.
