Street Tree Inventory: City of Ellensburg

Facet urban foresters worked with the City of Ellensburg Public Works and Utilities Department to update the City’s street tree inventory. The project included an assessment of approximately 6,400 current street trees or removal locations within planter strips, tree wells, ROWs, and trees within specified City parks. Facet then compiled the results of the tree inventory into a summary report which outlined the population’s species diversity, average sizes, immediate maintenance recommendations, and a summary of recommended species for replanting efforts. Data was collected using ArcGIS-based Field Maps and provided to the City in a geodatabase format that will be used to assess the City’s overall urban tree canopy and the benefits it can provide. Ellensburg is the longest-standing active Tree City USA in the state of Washington and our tree inventory update supports the priority of growing their Urban Forestry Program and specific goals from the City’s Strategic Vision for 2023-2028, including Sustainable Infrastructure and Energy & Resource Management
